An online tournament has the opposite constraint to a physical one. Nothing is limited by courts or tables, so every match in a round can happen at once and the event lasts as long as its slowest pairing rather than the sum of all its matches. Sixteen entrants in double elimination is thirty matches but only nine rounds, and that difference is the whole scheduling story.
What replaces the venue problem is a coordination problem. Nobody can see a bracket taped to a wall, so the bracket itself has to travel. The share link carries the whole tournament and every result recorded so far, so pinning it in a Discord channel gives everybody the same view without an account, a login or a subscription.
Double elimination is usually right online, because the extra bracket costs rounds rather than hours when everything runs in parallel. Round robin for eight or fewer, where a table read over a week is friendlier than a schedule everybody has to attend at once.
Rounds run in parallel, so plan the event in rounds and give each one a window rather than a start time.
Share the link in your Discord or group chat and repost it as results come in. It carries the results, so the newest link is always the current state.
Time zones are the real constraint. A round per day, with each pairing arranging their own match inside it, works better than one fixed bracket day.
Nothing here needs an account, which matters most online: an entrant can open the bracket on a phone without signing up for anything.

Seeds are paired so the strongest and weakest meet first, which keeps the top seeds in opposite halves of the draw. This is the order the board is drawn in, top to bottom.
Rounds run one after another, because a round cannot start until the one feeding it has finished. Matches inside a round can all run at once, so the number of lobbies you have decides the day more than the number of entrants does.
